In 1989 Dr Wypkema and Mr. Arendsen bought out Mr F. Wypkema and Mr. Langerak and changed the name from Kempton Park Hydromed to Arwyp Medical Centre using letters from their combined surnames. At that stage, the hospital consisted of 164 beds and 6 theatres. In the same year, Dr Wypkema’s son Otto joined the management team. Otto was to become the CEO of Arwyp.
