Dietary counseling
Professional registered dietician Lizel Marais, Arwyp Medical Centre’s resident registered dietician has worked at the hospital since 2003. She graduated from the University of Pretoria in 1997 and works closely with doctors at the Arwyp Medical Centre to ensure that patients who are prescribed low-fat, diabetic or high Glycaemic Index diets get the foods they require.
Lizel is available to advise both inpatients and outpatients who have been advised to make lifestyle changes as a result of coronary heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure or other conditions where diet is thought to play a major role.

Unlike many registered dieticians, Lizel charges medical aid rates; the medical centre considers the provision of her professional services as a service to the community.

Lizel has written a series of pamphlets on correct eating for different medical conditions. Doctors and specialists connected to Arwyp are encouraged to give these pamphlets to their patients. Patients should also ask their attending nurses for copies of the pamphlets.
