The long-awaited upgrade to the Arwyp Medical Centre’s paediatric ward has taken place and the new 36-bed unit was officially opened on 28 July 2011.
According to Arwyp Deputy Matron, Sandy Brennon, the unit has two treatment rooms, a family lounge, six three-bedded wards (each bed with its own TV and lockers) and 18 individual rooms with en suite bathrooms, air conditioners and TVs and is currently served by three paediatricians and one specialist paediatric surgeon. It will be managed by Sr. Estelle Botha, who has had many years of experience in this field. | |

Paediatrician Dr Jannie de Witt said that the addition of the new single rooms would be a great advantage in the on-going battle for infection control. He said there was a tremendous demand for paediatric care with the unit being one of the busiest in the hospital and that the improved facilities would be ideal for patients requiring additional levels of care.
The upgrading of the unit forms part of Arwyp Medical Centre’s ongoing quest to provide the best quality, round-the-clock service and state-of-the-art facilities to its clients.
