Arwyp's community fund  is helping the hospital's employees in their time of need. In 2009 Arwyp introduced its own community fund in order to contribute financially to Arwyp employees in need. All employees are encouraged to pay R10,00 a month into the fund. The hospital then matches the amount by donating the same amount as has been contributed by the employees. A number of Arwyp staff members have benefitted from this initiative. The most recent ones being as follows:
On the 27th May, Mrs Thandi Zulu from the Cleaning Department was crossing the road on her way to work, when a car knocked her over. Thandi suffered a severely fractured wrist and required x-rays & surgery. The nature of Thandi’s injury was so severe that she had to undergo surgery on her hand. Being the breadwinner and dependant on her income and not having medical aid, Thandi was distressed as to what would happen as she couldn’t pay for the surgery nor could she use her hand to do her daily work. Thandi’s circumstances were communicated to the Arwyp executive team and she was able to benefit from the community fund. The total cost of her medical bills (x-rays, doctors’ costs & hospitalization) was R 58,533.08. Mr. Wypkema, the hospital CEO, approved payment of Thandi’s R39,248.09 hospital account and the rest of the cost, R 19,284.99 was paid out of the community fund. A special thank you went to Mr. Wypkema for contributing to the fund and to all the Arwyp employees for their monthly donation to the fund.
