June being Blood Donor Month, the ATI invited all to attend a Health Awareness Day on 21 June 2010 and to donate blood. The guest speaker from South African National Blood Services (SANBS) was Mpho Latletsa and the organizer of the day was Veena Hansrajh an Educator at ATI. Nursing students included the pupil care workers and pupil enrolled nurses listened to a DVD presentation which was followed by a talk delivered regarding the importance of donating blood and the present shortage of blood in the country.
In Aid of National drug awareness week, Arwyp Training Institute helped host a drug awareness campaign along with Nodirt, a non profitable organisation, as well as the Kempton Police force.
The training took place on the 22 June 2010 at 12:00 until 13:00. It was well attended by the staff from Arwyp Medical Centre as well as the students who attend the training institute.
The hour was focused on bringing drug awareness across to the staff. Drug abuse has become an epidemic in the world and drugs are easily accessible to anyone, especially school going children. They discussed the statistics in the area, how many suicides are related to drug abuse, showed examples of the different drugs and gave the effects each drug has on the body.
Nodirt is a non-profit organisation which works very closely with the police force to create drug awareness.  They focus mainly on schools and churches in the East Rand.
The staff found the information very interesting and informative.
