A BIG thank you to all who contributed so wonderfully to the ATI Community Outreach Project! Arwyp staff members were so generous in their donations of food and a large donation of linen from the laundry was also received, as well as toys and children’s clothes.
On 24 July 2009 ATI students, accompanied by Marie Vermaak, Christa Odendaal, Adele Neethling and Helene Pieterse, went to Bhekakayo School in Bapsfontein to deliver all your donations and contributions to the school. On arrival at the school, the ATI delegation was greeted by Mr. Shaun Botha, his wife Gail, and some of the other volunteers. They were introduced to Mr. V.R. Mzimela, the school principal, who expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all involved.
The SRC members assisted in dishing up and handing out lunch to all the children. Afterwards they assisted with washing the dishes and cleaning up. The Bhekakayo School consists of 600 children from Grade 4 to Grade 12. It was bitterly cold, and some children did not even have warm clothes to wear. After lunch, Manini Molete (SRC President) had the opportunity to address the school. She introduced all the members involved and explained the purpose of their visit to the school. She encouraged the children to work hard at school and work towards further education. Other SRC Members were: Noko Ngoepe; Pearl Mdau; Lisa Kiley; Jeanette Mosia; Gladys Mfolo; Kwena Malapile and BR2 Volunteer Cindy Jooste.
