Sister Sandy Brennon, the hospital’s infection control manager, recently reported that a hand-washing campaign had been initiated in the hospital in order to make staff members aware of the importance of hand-washing in the prevention of cross-infection in hospital wards. The campaign involved identifying an allocated trainer in each ward in order to train every staff member in this regard with a view to having all staff members in the hospital trained within six months. Correct hand-washing can reduce cross infection rates by up to 60 %. A competition was also held with the following staff members being the winners: 1st place-Jackie le Roux (Paediatrics), 2nd place - Sophie Mthembu (Neuro Spinal ward) 3rd place - Iris Jordaan (Ward 5B).
