The Arwyp Training Institute’s Merit Award Function was held on 22 June 2007. As in previous years the ceremony was held to mark the graduation of the institute’s students and to celebrate their achievements. The proceedings were initiated by a welcoming address given by Margaret Ireland, the hospital’s HR manager. A choir consisting of students from the ATI sang for the assembled audience of teachers, mentors and family members. Motivational speaker, Abner Moriri, encouraged the graduates to be ’eagles’ and not ‘chickens’. He told them to seize opportunities when they present themselves and reminded them that only when it is dark can you see the stars and encouraged them to promote the vision of the company. After the graduation ceremony, the highest achievers were presented with prizes and trophies.
This year, a new award, the Unit Managers’ Award was presented to the Bridging student who demonstrated the best leadership skills and professionalism. The afternoon’s proceedings were rounded off with a lamp ceremony given by the students while they recited the nurse’s pledgeMrs. Helene Pieterse thanked each member of the SRC and invited everyone to join her and the students for refreshments after a moving ceremony and a successful year.
