Due to the need for additional beds in ICU for neurosurgical patients, a new ICU has been opened on the 11th floor of Arwyp. The use of the beds was applied for in 2004 and was approved by the Department of Health and officially opened in March 2006.
There are now 26 ICU beds on the 11th floor, 8 of which are specifically for neurosurgical patients. The medical and surgical patients are separated for infection control reasons.
