Zasskia Roode started her first year as a nursing student at Arwyp in 2005 and completed the auxiliary nursing course. In 2007 she became an enrolled nurse and stared working in Ward 4B in 2008. In 2009 she did the first year of her bridging course and is now in her second year.

Zasskia lives in Glen Marais and matriculated at Birchleigh High and in 2002 spent time in England where she ‘did a bit of everything’. She returned to South Africa and worked in a pharmacy for a few months before she started training at Arwyp. Zasskia says that since she was a child she has always wanted to become a nurse. A trip to an open day whilst still at school introduced her to Arwyp Medical Centre and its training institute. Zaskia says Arwyp is like home to her. She knows the doctors and staff, knows how the wards work and feels that working for Arwyp is like being part of a big family. Her studies take up most of her free time but when she is able to, she enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends, watching rugby and socialising.

Zasskia achieved her marks for exams written on the whole year’s work, including subjects such as anatomy, physiology and ethics. Pathophysiology is her favourite subject.
